How do I generate a sitemap for my website?

To generate a sitemap for your website, follow these steps:

  • Install and activate the Google XML Sitemap Generator plugin on your WordPress site.

  • You can access the sitemap by appending /sitemap.xml to your website’s URL (e.g., https://example.com/sitemap.xml).
  • Submit your sitemap to search engines like Google, Bing, Yandex, and Baidu to ensure that your site is indexed and crawled properly.

How do I submit my sitemap to search engines?

  • Go to the Google Search Console and sign in with your Google account.
  • Click on the “Sitemaps” tab and enter the URL of your sitemap.xml file (e.g., https://example.com/sitemap.xml).
  • Click on “Submit” to submit your sitemap to Google.
  • Repeat the process for other search engines like Bing, Yandex, and Baidu.

How often should I update my sitemap?

What types of sitemaps does the plugin generate?

Where can I find the options page of the plugin?

It is under Settings > XML-Sitemap. I know nowadays many plugins add top-level menu items, but in most of the cases it is just not necessary. I’ve seen WP installations which looked like an Internet Explorer ten years ago with 20 toolbars installed. 馃槈

Does this plugin use static files or “I can’t find the sitemap.xml file!”

Not anymore. Since version 4, these files are dynamically generated just like any other WordPress content.

There are no comments yet (or I’ve disabled them) and all my postings have a priority of zero!

Please disable automatic priority calculation and define a static priority for posts.

So many configuration options… Do I need to change them?

No, only if you want to. Default values are ok for most sites.

My question isn’t answered here

Please post your question at the WordPress support forum.

This plugin was great. Quick and easy. I still might switch to using the Yoast SEO XML Sitemap option (I'm comparing both right now on Google Search Console), but this is a solid plugin.

Attempting to use cookies to track registered users while they work on the dashboard is an absolute NO-GO! Inexperienced users are either confused by something like this or unintentionally confirm this process by clicking on the cookie banner in the dashboard. Since it hasn't been removed after more than a week, I permanently removed the plugin from all the sites I look after (almost 200).

I just got a popup when logging in to my site. I got this on the dashboard of my site. This wasn't a banner at the top. This was a popup. I wasn't on your plugin page. IT WAS ON THE DASHBOARD OF MY SITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you ever show a popup again I will remove your plugin from every single site I have ever built and never install again. I've been a web developer for over 20 years.....that is a lot of sites. """""Would you help us improve Google XML Sitemaps by sharing anonymous usage data? We intend to understand feature usage and use cases better so that we can provide you with the best indexation and indexing performance."""""" I said no when I installed and I meant it.
