Does the plugin send any data to Smash Balloon?

Only if you turn on the optional Usage Tracking setting (Reviews Feed Settings Advanced), which is off by default in the free plugin. When enabled, it sends a weekly background report about your plugin settings and relevant site stats (like WordPress and PHP versions) to help us prevent conflicts and improve the product. It never sends sensitive information such as access tokens, email addresses, or user info, and you can turn it off at any time — doing so also deletes the data collected on your site. Learn More

Our Pro version offers support for Facebook reviews, Trustpilot reviews, and WooCommerce product reviews in the “Plus” tier, and additionally TripAdvisor reviews and WordPress.org reviews in the “Elite” tier.

As with all of the Smashballoon plugins, this reviews feature works great. Integrating it is simple and requires very little to connect it and implement it. A year into the plugin being installed I did need to contact their support, and they provided incredible hands-on fixes for the issue I was having. Great support!

Historial de cambios

2.15.1

  • Fix: Empty and half stars in a feed are shown in grey whatever star colour you choose, so a half star or a 3-star review no longer looks like a full rating with black or dark stars.
  • Fix: Review rich snippets now appear for feeds placed with SiteOrigin Page Builder, Beaver Builder or Bricks.
  • Fix: A page that only shows the shortcode as text, or holds another plugin’s feed, no longer publishes a review rating for a feed that isn’t there.
  • Fix: Reviews Feed’s database tables are recreated automatically if they go missing, for example after a database cleanup tool runs.
  • Fix: Clearing a feed’s cache no longer logs a PHP notice when debugging is on.
  • Fix: A feed that can’t fetch reviews for a source now tells you why in the feed editor, instead of only showing “No Posts Found”.

2.15.0

  • Fix: When you reach the source limit without an API key, Add Source now says so and takes you to the API key step.
  • Fix: Plugin security hardening. If you use a page cache, clear it after updating.
  • Fix: The block editor now gets only each feed’s ID and name, so source details no longer reach anyone who can edit posts.
  • Fix: The “Optimize Images” setting is read correctly, and System Info now reports its real state.
  • Fix: The list of feeds shown as using a source no longer treats a _ or % in its ID as a wildcard, so it can’t list feeds that belong to a different source.

2.14.0

  • New: An About Us page under the Reviews Feed menu with plugin information and helpful links.
  • New: A Data Sharing settings tab lets you choose whether usage data is shared and whether in-plugin notifications are shown.
  • Tweak: Usage data is only sent, and remote notices are only fetched, when data sharing is allowed.
  • Fix: Saving settings without making any changes no longer shows an error message.
  • Fix: In-plugin notifications now appear as expected, and a dismissed notification stays dismissed.

2.13.1

  • Fix: The All Feeds page opens again on sites with a lot of content. Working out where each feed was used meant searching every post on the site, twice per feed, so on large sites the page could sit loading for around ten minutes. It now does that work once and remembers it.
  • Fix: Feeds added with the Reviews block, the older feed block, a synced pattern, a template part or the Elementor widget are now counted under “Instances”. Before this, only feeds added with a shortcode were, so a feed that was live on your site could be listed as used in 0 places right next to the delete button.
  • Fix: Instance counts are accurate where feed IDs share the first digits. Feed 12 was also counting pages that used feed 127. Some counts will go down after updating, and the lower number is the right one.
  • Fix: Adding or removing a feed from a page shows up straight away instead of waiting for a cached result to expire.
  • Fix: When we cannot finish checking where a feed is used, the Instances column now says so instead of showing zero, and the delete confirmation no longer claims the feed is unused.
  • Fix: Double-clicking the Finish button when adding a source no longer saves it more than once.
  • Fix: The onboarding tooltip that points at the block inserter works again on WordPress 6.9 and 7.0, where the editor moved into a frame and the tooltip lost track of the button.
  • Fix: Review dates read “1 year ago” instead of “1 years ago”.
  • Fix: The About us and Support pages line up with the plugin’s other pages again instead of sitting slightly to the right.
  • Fix: Deactivating Reviews Feed no longer clashes with the feedback form of another Smash Balloon plugin active on the same site, which could show the wrong form or make the request fail.

2.13.0

  • New: Reviews Feed now shares your overall rating, your connected review sources, each feed’s stats and your latest reviews with the Feed Analytics dashboard, so its Reviews report is fully populated instead of asking you to update this plugin. Nothing is shared unless Feed Analytics asks for it.
  • Improvement: Translations refreshed. The translation template had not been rebuilt in several releases, so hundreds of newer strings could not be translated. They can now, and translations that already existed for them are back in use.
  • Improvement: The PRO and PRO+ labels in the admin menu can now be translated.
  • Fix: Review dates no longer show as a large negative number of “seconds ago” when a source stores the review time as text.
  • Fix: Typos and grammar corrected in a number of settings and help strings.

2.12.0

  • Fix: Plugin security hardening.
  • New: Trust Badges, a Plus feature. The new screen shows what a badge looks like and what it can do; building and placing one needs a Plus licence.
  • Maintenance: behind-the-scenes improvements and compatibility updates.
  • Fix: Creating or previewing a feed no longer breaks the page. If a single cached review had been saved in a damaged form, the whole feed stopped loading — on some sites as a critical error screen. That one review is now skipped and the rest of the feed shows as usual.
  • Fix: Duplicating or importing a review collection no longer fails for the same reason. One damaged review used to stop the entire copy; it is now skipped and every other review comes across. And a file that is not a collection export now tells you so instead of failing quietly.

2.11.0

  • New: Optional usage tracking, off by default. The free plugin has never sent anything and still will not unless you switch it on under Settings Advanced. With it on, we get a weekly report about your plugin settings and site details like your WordPress and PHP versions. Never access tokens, email addresses or anything about your users. Switching it back off deletes what was collected on your site.
  • Improvement: Tested and supported on WordPress 7.1.
  • Fix: Adding a source now tells you what is wrong instead of doing nothing. Clicking Finish with the box empty looked like a dead button, and some providers gave no message at all when what you typed was not accepted.
  • Fix: Duplicating a feed keeps its styling instead of rendering with none.
  • Maintenance: behind-the-scenes improvements and compatibility updates.

2.10.0

  • New: Rich snippets. Your reviews can now show as star ratings in Google search results — the plugin adds schema.org markup for your feeds. Works with or without an SEO plugin (it merges into All in One SEO when that’s active). On by default, with a toggle under Settings Advanced.
  • Improvement: “Read more” reliably expands long reviews.
  • Fix: Plugin security hardening.

2.9.0

  • Improved: The upgrade prompts for our premium review sources — Airbnb, Booking.com, AliExpress and Easy Digital Downloads — now show each service’s own branding, for a clearer, more consistent look.
  • Improved: Accessibility. Feeds now work properly with keyboards and screen readers — list and heading structure, described source icons, a real “Read more” button, announcements after “Load More”, and visible focus outlines.
  • Maintenance: behind-the-scenes improvements and compatibility updates.

2.8.0

  • Fix: You can now add a TripAdvisor source without entering an API key — the API key step now has a Skip option.
  • Maintenance: behind-the-scenes improvements and compatibility updates.

2.7.0

  • Maintenance: behind-the-scenes improvements and compatibility updates.

2.6.8

  • Improved: On multilingual sites using WPML, your Google reviews now show up fully translated in every language you offer — not just the first few. Whichever language a visitor is browsing in, they’ll see all of your reviews in that language, including when they click “Load More”.

2.6.7

  • Fix: Minor fixes and plugin hardening.
  • Compatibility: Tested and confirmed compatible with WordPress 7.0.

2.6.5

  • Fix: Feeds that combine more than one source now show the correct total review count and a properly weighted average rating — on your published pages, not just in the Feed Builder preview.
  • Fix: Resolved a rare PHP error that could stop a feed from displaying.
  • Fix: Reviews feeds load faster on Elementor sites — the plugin no longer runs extra background database lookups on every page, which could slow down sites with a lot of feeds.
  • Fix: Fixed feeds dropping to only a few reviews after moving a site to a new domain — the plugin now reconnects to your existing account on the new address instead of getting stuck.
  • Fix: Removing a review source now works properly — deleting one could previously error out, or leave you unable to add a new source even when none was showing in your list.
  • Fix: Clicking Clear All Caches now refreshes your reviews right away, instead of sometimes leaving a feed empty until the next scheduled update.
  • Fix: Pro customers (including legacy All Access Bundle licenses) are no longer mistakenly shown a free-plan review limit — your full set of reviews loads as expected.
  • Fix: Addtional plugin hardening.

2.6.4

  • Fix: Improved loading performance for the block editor and Reviews Feed dashboard, keeping these screens fast and responsive on sites with large amounts of content.
  • Fix: Corrected a few misspelled labels in several translations.

2.6.3

  • New: A modern Reviews Feed block for the WordPress block editor, plus a new Elementor widget — pick one of your feeds and drop it onto any page or post visually, no shortcode needed.
  • Fix: Resolved a critical error on PHP 8 sites where an unexpected response from a review source could crash the page instead of being skipped over. Feeds now stay up and quietly ignore malformed review data.
  • Fix: Adding or refreshing Google and Yelp sources is more reliable — when the reviews service is slow to respond, the connection no longer hangs or leaves you with an empty feed.

2.6.2

  • Fix: Improved reliability on PHP 8 — when a review source can’t be reached, the plugin now logs the issue quietly in the background instead of interrupting the feed builder.
  • Tweak: Refreshed the Easy Digital Downloads source icon to match EDD’s current branding.

2.6.0

  • Tweak: Cleaner small-icon notice graphics — admin notification thumbnails now keep their aspect ratio instead of being stretched into a square.
  • Tweak: Notification icons load reliably across the admin area; the small “Reviews Feed” thumbnails that occasionally appeared as broken images now resolve to the correct file.

2.5.5

  • Fix: Background cron update optimizations — feed processing batches more efficiently, reducing Google Places API requests on sites with multiple feeds.
  • Fix: Connection stability under transient server conditions such as cache events, brief deploys, and high-traffic parallel requests.
  • Fix: Site URL recognition across proxy formats (Cloudflare, AWS, Nginx), www variations, and trailing-dot domain forms for consistent connectivity behind any hosting setup.
  • Tweak: Update external links.

2.5.4

  • Fix: Resolved a registration loop on multilingual sites (WPML, Polylang) where WordPress’s home URL emitted different language paths across requests.
  • Fix: Hardened the registration retry limiter so it correctly stops repeated requests even when the plugin successfully registers in a loop.

2.5.3

  • Fix: Resolved a loop where sites that switched between http and https (for example after enabling SSL via their host) kept re-registering on every page load.
  • Tweak: Added a safeguard that limits how often the plugin can retry registration when something goes wrong, so it never floods your site or our servers.

2.5.2

  • Fix: Google reviews from authors with non-Latin names (Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Cyrillic, etc.) no longer disappear.
  • Fix: Source address now shows under the business name for your Google sources.
  • Fix: Total ratings no longer dips during a provider outage — falls back to last good count.
  • Fix: Plugin self-heals on next admin load if settings get corrupted by a backup/migration tool.

2.5.1

  • Fix: Resolved an issue where email verification could get stuck in a loop if the email was already verified.
  • Fix: Resolved an error that could occur when clicking an expired email verification link.
  • Fix: Email verification now completes successfully even if your session has expired.
  • Tweak: Improved security for the email verification process.

2.5.0

  • Fix: Resolved PHP 8.1+ deprecation warning when feed settings were not an array.
  • Tweak: Added security fix with rel=”noreferrer” on external links.
  • Tweak: Accessibility improvements for interactive elements.

2.4.6

  • New: Added deactivation feedback survey to help improve the plugin.
  • Fix: Improved block editor performance by eliminating unnecessary database queries on page load.

2.4.5

  • Fix: Resolved international character encoding issues (æ, ø, å, etc.) in source names causing API errors.
  • Fix: Improved HTML entity decoding in review content display.
  • Tweak: Enhanced source identification reliability for API communications.

2.4.4

  • Fix: Resolved Borlabs Cookie 3.x compatibility issue preventing consent detection.
  • Fix: Improved website registration token handling for better reliability.

2.4.3

  • Tweak: Improved API key handling for all review providers.
  • Tweak: Saved API keys are now used when adding new sources.
  • Tweak: Enhanced API communication reliability.

2.4.2

  • Tweak: Plugin hardening and miscellaneous fixes.

2.4.1

  • Tweak: Add official support for WordPress 6.9.

2.4.0

  • New: Full PHP 8.4 compatibility with all deprecation warnings resolved.
  • New: Pagination for feeds and sources lists in the admin for better management of large numbers of items.
  • Tweak: Plugin hardening and miscellaneous fixes.
  • Fix: Fixed spelling errors in code.
  • Fix: Various bug fixes and performance improvements.
